In preparation for the Lehigh Valley Zine fest, I've been in the studio working on a few new zines for my table! I wanted to make an extra mini-zine which is actually really easy to do. It's similar to the one-page one-cut zine but with more cuts and folds. Here's a link that helped me create it! The finished product is a compact zine with about 14 pages, and again, using just one sheet of paper.
This zine in particular was inspired by Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass and begins with the quote, "A child said what is the grass? fetching it to me with full hands; How could I answer the child? I do not know what it is any more than he."
The images of wildflowers come from this beautiful area in my town that is just filled with gorgeous flowers living by the side of the road. I went there often this summer and really wanted to keep a little reminder of that place.
While I was cutting and folding this zine I watched this really cool documentary on Whitman that I highly recommend, it's from the Voices and Visions series, and it's free online. When there's nothing on TV (which is way more often than not), I like to pick a short documentary of the life of a famous poet. It's interesting and you're learning something too! Here's the link (they have many great videos to chose from).
If you are interested in purchasing Whitman's Wild Flowers please let me know and I'd be happy to send you a lil' package! I will be selling a number of my zines on my etsy shop very soon!
