Let's Make: A Care Package

May 19, 2017

Making handmade cards is such a big part of what I love to do, so it only makes sense that I love mail! Care Packages are excellent ways to really surprise someone you love and care about. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with ideas, especially ideas that are small enough to easily send through snail mail. In this post, I’ve compiled some tips and ideas for you that will hopefully inspire you to get creating!

Tip #1 the Gift Box

A few weeks ago I decided to send a care package to a friend who wasn’t feeling very well. I did some research and I stumbled upon some great blog posts by Rookie Magazine: Gift Box ,Care Package  where they give you awesome ideas for making “gift boxes.” Some of my favorite ideas included:

  • confetti

  • little blank journals

  • candy

  • photographs

The best part about many of these things is that they work pretty well for those who are on a budget. Which brings me to...

Tip #2 No Money? No Problem!

You don’t need to spend tons of cash to put something sweet and thoughtful together. My favorite place to find some affordable stuff? The Dollar Store! In my care package I ended up collecting a lot of items from my local dollar store including:

  • Little notebooks

  • Stickers

  • Gift Wrap/ Tissue Wrap

  • Tiny Stuffed Animal (Great for “Get Well Soon” packages in my opinion)

Some other items you can put in that aren’t too expensive and easy to find at your local craft store and/or pharmacy:

  • key chain

  • Star confetti

  • Iron on Patch

  • Essential Oils

  • Face Masks

  • Hand Lotion

Tip # 3 Get Creative

Though, I guess this tip goes without saying, but you might be wondering what kinds of things you can make for a care package. Well, lots!

  • Collages: not mention you can decorate the little box you’re putting everything in! My favorite part of making my package was decorating the box. I used stickers, little scrapbooking 3D stickers, and old magazine photos.

  • Zines: Don’t know how to make one? Check out my post about it here. For my care package I made a zine that explained each and every little item I included:

  • Notebook: With the ones I grabbed at the dollar store I made one of them into a sort of “Happy Place” journal. I wrote down some of my favorite quotes, made lists of upbeat songs and jotted down some of my favorite movies to watch when I’m feeling down.

  • Photographs: You can print out some photos of you and your friend or whoever you’re sending the package too.

  • And Of Course: A  Letter! Or a card...possibly one of my cards? Hehe.

Tip # 4 Presentation

The final (and perhaps most important step) is wrapping it all up. Literally! I completely agree with this Rookie article about wrapping up each little gift. It’s so fun to unwrap everything and makes it all that much more of a sweet surprise!

There you have it! Some tips that I hope help Y O U start sending some love out there to your friends, pen pals, family, significant others etc.

So what are you waiting for, go forth and create!
